Welcome! This guide walks you through setting up your Trezor hardware wallet using Trezor Suite, so you can begin securely managing your cryptocurrency assets.
Trezor is a hardware wallet that securely stores your private keys offline. The Trezor Suite is the companion app (desktop or web) that communicates with your device, allowing you to manage coins, send and receive transactions, and monitor your portfolio.
This guide assumes you have just unboxed your Trezor device and are ready to start from scratch.
Open your web browser and navigate to trezor.io/start. This is the official onboarding portal for Trezor devices. Avoid entering through links in emails or search engine ads to reduce the risk of phishing.
On the “Start” page, you will see options to download Trezor Suite for desktop, or continue in browser (web). For the most robust security experience, we recommend using the desktop app.
Choose the correct version of Trezor Suite for your operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux). Download the installer and run it. Once installed, open Trezor Suite.
If you prefer, you can click “Continue in browser” to use the web-based version. However, the desktop app tends to provide better stability and security.
Plug your Trezor into a USB port using the included cable. The Trezor Suite app should detect it automatically. If not, you may be prompted to install Trezor Bridge (a background service that facilitates communication between your device and browser) or allow browser permissions.
Your Trezor may indicate that it needs a firmware installation or update. Follow the on-screen prompts in Trezor Suite to install the latest firmware version. The process usually takes a minute or two, and the device will reboot.
Firmware updates are critical for security and enabling support for the latest features and coin types.
Once firmware is installed, the Suite will prompt you to create a new wallet. Choose Create New Wallet. As part of this process, your device will generate a recovery seed phrase (typically 12 or 24 words).
To protect your wallet from unauthorized physical access, the Suite will prompt you to choose a PIN. Enter a 4–9 digit PIN on your Trezor device screen (via device buttons or touchscreen, depending on model).
Each time you connect your device later, you’ll need to enter this PIN to access your funds.
Trezor supports an optional passphrase as an additional security layer. Think of this as a “25th word” beyond your seed. If enabled, each session can use a different passphrase to access a hidden wallet.
Use this feature only if you understand it well — if you forget the passphrase, you may permanently lose access to coins under that passphrase.
Once your wallet is ready, you can add accounts for supported coins. In Trezor Suite, go to Accounts → Add account and select from the offered list (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.).
To receive funds, click the “Receive” button, verify the address on your device, and share that address with the sender. To send, click “Send”, enter the recipient address and amount, then confirm details on the device.
The Trezor Suite dashboard will show your asset balances, transaction history, and portfolio performance. You can also:

.Try a different USB cable or port. Ensure the cable supports data, not just power. Check that Trezor Bridge is installed and active. Reopen Trezor Suite. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}
Ensure your Internet connection is stable, and try again. Sometimes rebooting your computer and reconnecting helps. Avoid interference from antivirus/firewall software.
You can’t recover the PIN directly, but if you have your recovery seed, you can reset the device and restore your wallet with the same seed.
Use your recovery seed with a new Trezor (or compatible wallet) to restore access to your funds.
Check spelling carefully. Make sure you're writing the exact words (commonly 12 or 24) in the correct order. If you still fail confirmation multiple times, reset and start over.
